AMA Chapter earns case competition award

NNU’s American Marketing Association (AMA) Collegiate Chapter Case Competition team received the Commendable Award for their marketing strategy submission for this year’s sponsor—the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

The case competition team consisted of six members from the university’s AMA Chapter: Olivia Carter, Tennyson Young, McKenna Walker, Hayley Henderson, Avery Albrecht and Amanda Slater.

“I am exceedingly pleased with our team’s recognition in the commendable category for its well-developed marketing strategy for the Wall Street Journal,” said Dr. Konya Weber, AMA Advisor and Associate Dean of the School of Business. “I believe our students had the advantage of knowing this publication well because we provide copies of the WSJ to our students and professors integrate current WSJ articles into their classroom teaching. NNU’s AMA Chapter continues to grow and build on its successes while providing opportunities for students to cultivate their marketing skills.”

To develop their marketing strategy, the team performed market research on and off campus with business and non-business students ranging ages 18-26. They held focus groups and in-person interviews, and then the group leaders compiled their findings and created a marketing theory. This competition spanned the month of November.

"It was such a pleasant surprise to be recognized for our marketing strategy,” said AMA President and MBA student, Olivia Carter. “Our group put in a lot of work researching and writing up this case, so it's great to receive this award. Now I'm even more excited for Conference!"

Currently, NNU’s chapter is preparing for the annual AMA conference held in New Orleans, Louisiana. Every March, AMA collegiate chapters from the United States and Puerto Rico come together to receive advice from professionals, develop their careers, engage in competitions and network with fellow marketers. Dr. Weber serves as Co-Chair of the conference, and NNU will take four representatives to represent the chapter.
