NNU will launch a new Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program August 2021. This 16-month program will include 12 months of fully online coursework and one semester of student-teaching. Unlike many other graduate education programs which are designed for educators to advance in their field, this program is specifically designed for career professionals who are currently outside the field of education to earn their teaching certification and Master of Arts degree.
"In our current world situation, we are seeing more and more professionals considering a career change and wanting to enter the world of education,” said program director Holly Ripley. “The MAT program was developed in direct response to this growing need and will allow these individuals to build on the education they already have, earn their teaching certification and receive the preparation they need to succeed in a classroom of their own.”
NNU’s MAT program offers either Elementary or Secondary Teacher Certification. Individuals who have earned their bachelor’s degree and want to earn their teaching credentials can further their education while working around their current life and occupational demands. Cohorts begin each fall with Fall 2021 hosting its first class.
The MAT joins multiple graduate education programs at NNU including programs in Curriculum, Instruction and Innovation; Educational Leadership; Exceptional Child; and Leadership and Organizational Development.
Applications for the MAT are being accepted now. More information can be found at: value.nnu.edu/graduate/mat.
