Associate Professor, Music Theory, Low Brass
George Turner has taught full time in the music department at Northwest Nazarene University for 46+ years, focusing on music theory and low brass. He has also been Principal Trombone with the Boise Philharmonic from 1988-2019. He has performed as a substitute in the Phoenix Symphony and free lanced with a wide variety of artists, ranging from the American Ballet Theatre to Doc Severinson, Kenny Rodgers, and The Moody Blues. His primary trombone instructors were Ed Kleinhammer of the Chicago Symphony, Gail Wilson of Arizona State University and Tasso Harris of the University of Denver. George has been a faculty member at Northwest Nazarene University since 1974, teaching in the music department. He and his wife Karla reside in Nampa where she is a 3d grade teacher. Their four children and many grandchildren are dispersed across the U.S. Outdoor hobbies include mountain biking, fly fishing, and hiking.
