The Music Department at Northwest Nazarene University recognizes that today’s musicians are not limited to those who play traditional instruments. Whether managing a concert tour, producing in a recording studio or running a live music venue is your scene, NNU Music has a place for you. The Commercial Music concentration will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in this industry while simultaneously developing your portfolio and growing your network. In addition to engaging coursework, all music majors are required to gain experience through participating in one ensemble each semester.

This program is built on a foundation of Classical and Jazz & Blues to enhance the study of more contemporary styles of music such as jazz, pop, R&B, rock, and more. Within the Commercial Music major, students may choose from different concentrations: Performance, Composition & Arranging, Music Business, and Music Technology.

Today’s music is about more than those who perform. It requires knowledge and skill in business and entrepreneurship and NNU’s program focuses on the business, management and technology of the music industry. The Bachelor of Arts in Music with Commercial Music concentration will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in this industry while simultaneously developing your portfolio and growing your network. In addition to engaging coursework, all music majors gain valuable experience through participating in active ensembles on campus.

 

You will be able to choose from a variety of classes that support your concentration including, audio signal flow, studio production and recording techniques, arranging and producing, performance instruction, jazz studies, sound reinforcement, entrepreneurship, to a final capstone project that encompasses your passion and focus.

 

Music majors are required to participate in a minimum of one ensemble and attend and/or produce ten recitals or concerts each semester.
