Carey Cook

Vice President for Student Life
Dr. Carey Cook received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Communications from Point Loma Nazarene University in 1988, his Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Albertson College of Idaho in 1992 and his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Idaho in 2002.
Dr. Cook came to Northwest Nazarene University in 1993 as Director of Leadership Development in the Student Development area and served in that role until 2001 when he assumed his role as Vice President for Student Development. Previously, Dr. Cook was a counselor and Case Manager for Starting Point Chemical Dependency Services (1992-1993) and Youth Pastor at Valley Shepherd Church of the Nazarene (1988-1990).

Steve Emerson

Vice President for Finance & Operations
Steve Emerson most recently worked as Senior Vice President (SVP) of Commercial Banking at the Bank of the Cascades. In addition to his role as SVP, he has held leadership positions at American Bank of Commerce, First Security Bank, KeyBank, Farmer’s and Merchants Bank and Home Federal Bank over the span of his career. Emerson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Accounting in 1992 and a Master of Business Administration in 1999, both from NNU. He also played on the basketball team. He is married to his wife, Jonna, and together they have four children: McKenna, Chandler, Ellie and Annabelle.

Fred Fullerton

Executive Director, University Mission & Ministry
Dr. Fred Fullerton serves as as Executive Director of University Mission & Ministry. He is an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene and, prior to assuming his current assignment, served as the Lead Pastor for nine years at the Wollaston Church of the Nazarene located on the campus of Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts.
Dr. Fullerton is a graduate of Olivet Nazarene University (Th.b, '77) and Nazarene Theological Seminary (M.Div., '85). In 2006, Eastern Nazarene College conferred on him the honorary Doctor of Divinity degree. From 1991-2000, Dr. Fullerton served as the Director of NYI Ministries where he led Nazarene Youth Congresses in Phoenix ('95) and Toronto, Ontario, Canada ('99) and traveled to 25 countries leading youth ministry training and preaching at global youth conferences. He has served as a trustee at Nazarene Theological Seminary, chaired the New England District General Assembly Resolutions Committee and served as a member of the District Board of Ministerial Credentials.

Brad Kurtz-Shaw

Vice President for Academic Affairs
Dr. Kurtz-Shaw comes to NNU from Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois in 1991. He has served as professor, coordinator of new faculty development and as interim vice president for academic affairs. Shaw holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Religion, a Master of Arts in English and a Ph.D. in American Literature. He was a Fulbright scholar and later a Fulbright professor of American Literature at University of Bergen, Norway.

Mark Wheeler

Vice President for External Relations
Mark Wheeler serves as Vice President for External Relations, which entails overseeing all external relations departments of the university, including University Advancement, Admissions, Marketing, Alumni Relations and Community Relations. Prior to his current role, Wheeler served as NNU's Associate Vice President of Development since 2012 and as Director of Major Donor Relations from 2002 to 2007. He is a 1994 and 2005 NNU graduate with Bachelor of Biological Science and a Master of Business Administration degrees, respectively.
