Department of Art & Design
The Department of Art & Design at Northwest Nazarene University is a vital and growing program which offers a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design, Studio Art, or Art Education, as well as several options for earning a graphic design or studio art minor. Whether required for the major in Graphic Design, Studio Art, or Art Education, all courses in the Department of Art & Design are rooted in the foundations and sensibilities established in the fine arts and its history. NNU’s graphic design program features an innovative and comprehensive curriculum seldom found in schools of its size. The graphic design program prepares students for careers in graphic design, such as web and interactive design, print design, advertising, and marketing through a variety of media and methods. Additionally, the BA in Graphic Design prepares students for further study in art- and design-related fields. The graphic design program utilizes a state-of-the art Macintosh facility. Small student/faculty ratios provide opportunities for close faculty and student interactions and enhanced learning experiences.
Description of Position
The Department of Art & Design is seeking highly-qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure track, teaching position in graphic design, beginning fall 2014. The position includes teaching entry-level and upper-division courses in art and design, advising students, and serving as a productive and flexible member of the art and design faculty. Other responsibilities include committee assignments, departmental and university governance, student recruitment, and art club involvement.
Introduction to Web Design, Advanced Web Design, Introduction to Typography, Integrated Media Campaigns, Non-Profit Studio advisor, Senior Portfolio Exhibition, etc.
EDUCATION: An MFA or terminal degree in graphic design or related art/design field is required.
EXPERIENCE: The ideal candidate will demonstrate proven teaching ability as well as professional experience as a graphic designer, particularly in the area of interactive media. Preference will be given to candidates with additional skills in studio art and/or knowledge of art history.
TECHNICAL: Candidates must have a thorough knowledge of the Macintosh platform and be well-versed in the Adobe Creative Suite - Dreamweaver, Flash, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, etc. The candidate must also demonstrate proficiency in HTML and CSS.
PHILOSOPHICAL: Candidates must demonstrate their ability to explore and teach the potential of existing and emerging design and communication technologies. Candidates will be expected to articulate connections between the field of graphic design and a Christian worldview. Candidates must show evidence of understanding teaching as a Christian vocation and the pedagogical acumen required in a teaching university.
PERSONAL: Candidates must demonstrate the ability to effectively and comfortably communicate with students and faculty. The University requires that all candidates be Christians and in agreement with the mission and lifestyle values of NNU, as well as be active in a church.
The salary will be determined based on the educational background and experience of the candidate.
