Description of Position
The Director of Financial Aid at Northwest Nazarene University is a member of the Enrollment & Marketing Team and the senior staff associate for traditional, adult and graduate financial aid functions.  This position coordinates the policies and procedures of the financial aid operations to support the overall recruitment and retention strategies for Northwest Nazarene University in an effort to promote NNU as the college of choice on the Northwest Region.  The Director of Financial Aid reports to the Vice President for Enrollment and Marketing.  The Director of Financial Aid supervises the full staff of the Financial Aid Office.  This position is an exempt, full-time position. Essential Functions

  • In consultation with the Vice President for Enrollment & Marketing, develop and coordinate all institutional financial aid procedures and processes to support the efforts of financial aid counselors, schools and departments, athletics, alumni and other constituencies in the recruitment and retention of students
  • In consultation with the Vice President for Enrollment & Marketing, lead in the analysis and cultivation of the financial aid awarding for prospective students and formulate the best approaches to meet the needs of prospective students.
  • Oversee and manage the department budget
  • Oversee workflow assignments, coordinate clerical and professional staff assignments, determine operation schedules with the office, and deliver financial aid-related services to constituencies
  • Work with campus offices to develop procedures to insure compliance with federal, state and institutional standards, policies, and regulations
  • Develop contact networks with appropriate professional organizations to promote visibility of NNU and represent the University in these organizations
  • Support the admissions staff in fulfilling annually stated recruiting goals and ensure the quality of campus visit experiences
  • Coordinate communication efforts to ensure prompt response to inquiries
  • Serve as liaison in the complete process of financial aid procedures, including working directly with lenders, guarantors and federal agencies
  • Oversee and work directly with students and parents throughout the financial aid process
  • Participate in official and ad hoc committee assignments as directed
  • Coordinate with campus offices to ensure proper documentation and account management, including but not limited to scholarship development, registrar records, student accounts, athletic eligibility, etc.
  • Organize and participate in entrance and exit counseling sessions for our borrowers.
  • Other duties as assigned based upon the specific qualifications of the individual.

Minimum Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree is required

  • Demonstrate high motivation and commitment to the University, including the ability to self-start, be calm under pressure, meet deadlines in a deadline-oriented environment, work with minimal supervision, tolerate ambiguity, and relate to a variety of personalities under diverse circumstances
  • Must demonstrate strong communication skills (both oral and written) and must be able to work with a high level of accuracy and maintain confidential information
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of financial aid regulations and delivery systems
  • Must have sufficient skills, knowledge and training to perform the essential functions of this position and demonstrated ability to interact with students, parents, counselors, pastors, and other constituencies
  • Must have administrative experience with a thorough understanding of best practices of financial aid
  • Proficiency and experience with financial aid software applications is required
  • Ability to adapt and accept change while maintaining a positive demeanor

Preferred Requirements

  • Master's degree is preferred
  • Academic, administrative experience or at least five years in finanacial aid office

Compensation
Salary will be determined by the educational background and experience of each applicant.
