Faculty Retreat 2009

"God's Cause and our Call"

August 22 & 23 (21st if going up Friday)

This year our speaker will be Rev. Reuben Welch, Associate Professor of Religion Emeritus at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California.  Professor Welch, in demand as a speaker at churches, retreats and conferences, has a unique ability to blend biblical truth with practical application and contagious humor.

Following graduation from Pasadena College and Nazarene Theological Seminary, he did further graduate work at the University of Southern California.  He pastored churches in Hawaii, Arizona and southern California before joining the faculty of Pasadena College in 1960.  He served as college chaplain from 1968 – 1983.  During this time, the college moved to San Diego, California and was renamed Point Loma Nazarene University.  He was honored by his alma mater in 1980 with the degree, Doctor of Divinity.

Reuben recently married Barbara Hornbeck.  They met in 1961 at Pasadena College, and their friendship continued through the intervening years.  Barbara served on the PLNU board of trustees for 22 years.

Dr. Welch has authored ten books, including the popular WE REALLY DO NEED EACH OTHER.  His more recent books are four Bible studies published by Zondervan:  FAITH FOR THE JOURNEY (Hebrews), OUR FREEDOM IN CHRIST (Romans), THE OPEN SECRET OF STRENGTH (Philippians) and LET’S LISTEN TO JESUS (John 13-17).

Reuben will be speaking from Ephesians 4:1-16.

We will also be introducing a new feature, called Hobby Huddles.  You will have a chance to learn about some interesting hobbies and maybe learn something new about your fellow faculty members and their spouses.  As always, we will have a wonderful time worshipping and growing in fellowship and relationship to God and one another.

NNU Faculty Retreat is sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs for NNU full time faculty and their immediate families.  Registration is required but there is no cost for lodging at the Trinity Pines Conference Center on Friday and Saturday night.  All meals served during the conference from Saturday morning through Sunday lunch are also included.

Friday night option
Trinity Pines Conference Center has graciously extended the option to NNU faculty families or individuals who may wish to check in on Friday evening prior to the beginning of the Retreat and stay at the Conference Center.  Please understand that NO FOOD SERVICE is available and NO CHILD CARE is available – just lodging.

If you want to take advantage of this option

  • Choose the appropriate “+ Friday” option on the Registration Form.
  • Understand that every attempt will be made to assign you the same accommodations for Saturday night, but it may be necessary to relocate in order to satisfy all of the housing requests for those arriving on Saturday.

You should find here everything you need to know (and more!) about the retreat.  If you still have questions, please contact one of the committee members.
