CRU Awards celebrate Crusader student-athletes success

2014cruawardsMore than 300 student-athletes, coaches and friends of Crusader Nation gathered at the Johnson Sports Center on Wednesday, April 30, to celebrate Northwest Nazarene University’s athletic success over the past year.

The 3rd annual CRU Awards honored athletes from each of the Crusaders 15 men’s and women’s varsity sports teams, along with honoring the top individual Crusader athletes from the 2013-14 academic year.

The CRU Awards honorees from each respective sport are as follows:

  • Arthur D. Ortman Award: Julianne Steele
  • W.A. “Art” Horwood — Ralph E. Neil Soccer Award: John DiLulo
  • Bennett Volleyball Award: Michelle Terpstra
  • Roberts Inspirational Award: Rebecca TenHaken
  • Steve Hills Cross Country Award: Michael Gordon and Natalie Evans
  • Salisbury Basketball Award: Megan Hingston
  • Glen Reed Basketball Award: Mario Donaldson and Kevin Rima
  • Eldon Beer Baseball Award: Andrew Helmstadter
  • J.B. Frazier Award: Sam Cook
  • Bobby Halle Outstanding Softball Award: Justine Callen
  • Taylor Golf Award: Samantha Miller and Nick Hardy
  • L.E.S. Women’s Track Award: Jordan Rehfeld and Marie Miller
  • Wesley O. Young Track Award: Rimar Christie

The top individual award winners are as follows:

  • Most Inspirational Performance of the Year: Connor Magnuson
  • Rookie of the Year: Alison Silva
  • Break-Out Athletic Performance of the Year: Micah Spatz
  • Best Performance of the Year: Nick Hardy
  • Team Community Service Award: Men’s & Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field
  • Coach of the Year: Craig Stensgaard
  • Hopkins-Humphrey Female Athlete Award: Megan Hingston
  • Orrin E. Hills Male Athlete Award: Rimar Christie
