NNU’s Department of Music is proud to present DUO MONTAGNARD, a saxophone/guitar duo that promises to entertain and delight audiences of all ages, on Thursday, January 16, at 6:30 p.m. The duo, formed in 2002, has performed over 250 concerts in more than 45 states with concerts in foreign venues as well.
Joseph Murphy on saxophone is professor at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania where he has served as department chair and director of bands. He earned a Bachelor of Musical Arts from Bowling Green State University and a Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music from Northwestern University. Murphy has been involved in commissioning and premiering more than 20 new works for the saxophone, including pieces by Libby Larsen, Michael Colgrass, John Harbison, Bernard Rands and Gunther Schuller.
Matt Slotkin, guitarist, earned a Doctor of Musical Arts, Master of Music and Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music where he studied guitar with Nicholas Goluses. He is an acclaimed performer, teacher and scholar, and has appeared in leading venues on five continents. His commitment to contemporary music has resulted in premieres of numerous works by Linda Buckley, John Anthony Lennon, Scott Lindroth, John Orfe and many others.
Repertoire will include such pieces as “Entr-acte” by Jacques Ibert, “Deux Movements” by Caroline Charrier, and “On the Edge” by Laura Kramer.
The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. January 16 in the Little Theatre and is free and open to the public.
