Alumna and long-time friend of NNU, Dr. Marilee Shively (’77), passed away July 5 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. She had recently concluded her six-year term as president of the Alumni Board and member of the Board of Trustees. Marilee brought to the position a tremendous love for NNU and passion for the Lord.
Marilee’s presidency will be remembered for her initiation of the Alumni Association’s JESUS Film Harvest Partners mission trips. Even though her health prevented her from traveling on the first trip to Bangladesh in 2012, she was the driving force behind the event, including raising over $20,000 for film equipment. Alumni, students and friends of NNU are invited to join in the next trip to share the Jesus Film in Costa Rica. Trip leaders are NNU Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Dr. Ron Galloway and Regional Director of Jesus Film Harvest Partners Darrell Leber.
Director of Alumni Relations Darl Bruner says of NNU’s partnership with Marilee, “How blessed we were to have worked alongside this lady who truly exemplified Jesus on this earth!”
Since her home-going, three new Alumni Board officers have been elected to serve three-year terms: Jan (Galloway) McIntire (’81) from Longmont, Colo., president; Josh Fishburne (’03) from Boise, Idaho, vice president and Intermountain district director; and, Dennis Strait (’69) from Anchorage, Alaska, secretary and Alaska director.
Other district directors continuing to serve on the Board include: Tahmina Martelly (’88), Intermountain; Shelley (Jensen) Sohriakoff (’75), Oregon Pacific; John Berggren (’67), Washington Pacific; Jill Shepherd (’81), Rocky Mountain; and Hollie Lindner (’02), NNU’s director of marketing and media.
