Lady Crusaders earn NCAA D.II National Tournament berth

The women’s basketball team will make their fifth NCAA Division II National Basketball Tournament appearance next weekend in Bellingham, Wash. as the 7th-seed in the West Region, as announced by the NCAA office in Indianapolis.

The Crusaders will face the Clan of Simon Fraser University who was seeded 2nd in the West Region. The teams will face off on Saturday, March 16, at the Sam Carver Gymnasium at 2:30 pm (PST) on the campus of Western Washington University.

“This is has a been a special team that has come together as a family this season,” commented head coach Kelli Lindley, “We have had an outstanding leader in lone senior Heather Adams. She has set the tone on how hard we play, and we are thrilled to get the opportunity to go on to the post season.”

NNU finished the regular season at 19-7 overall and were ranked fifth in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The Crusaders defeated Alaska Anchorage 65-60 in round one of the GNAC tournament last Wednesday in Bellingham. On Friday, the Vikings of WWU defeated NNU 60-49. The Vikings went on to beat Simon Fraser 60-40 in the GNAC championship.

The Clan of SFU finished the regular season second in the GNAC with an overall record of 22-4. SFU lost three conference games, two to Western Washington and one to the Crusaders. NNU defeated the Clan 60-59 on January 24, 2013 at the Johnson Sports Center in Nampa, Idaho.
