NNU forms partnership to meet demand for accountants

June 14, 2012, 4:17 pm

The demand for accountants and auditors is projected to increase by 16 percent over the next decade providing more than 50,000 job openings . To meet this demand Northwest Nazarene University (NNU), College of Western Idaho (CWI) and Treasure Valley Community College (TVCC) are streamlining the educational process for students to earn an accounting degree.

NNU formalized an articulation agreement with TVCC that gives students with a clear path toward earning a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Business Administration. In 2011 an agreement was signed that also allows CWI students to easily transfer to Northwest Nazarene University and take advantage of NNU’s degree programs designed for traditional students as well as professionals seeking to advance their career. NNU continues her partnership with CWI by adding accounting to the current agreement between the schools.

Students who earn an associate’s degree from CWI or TVCC will be granted junior standing at NNU and will be eligible to transfer up to 62 credits. These students will receive a waiver of all general education requirements with the following exceptions: THEO2100 Introduction to Christian Theology, an elective Bible Literature or Theology course, KINE1000 Fundamentals of Wellness, an approved capstone course, and one cross-cultural experience.

“Partnerships between colleges and universities such as these are necessary in making higher education accessible for students of all ages,” said NNU Vice President Burton Webb. “CWI and TVCC students will soon graduate from NNU with a bachelor’s degree in hand and a world of employment opportunities before them. I hope many students take advantage of these opportunities.”
