President David Alexander, with the approval of Northwest Nazarene University’s Board of Trustees, today named David Tarrant the new vice president for financial affairs.

Tarrant brings an extensive professional background in financial management as well as experience in private Christian higher education. He served as the vice president for finance and operations at Crown College (St. Bonifacius, Minn.) for the past five years. Prior to entering the higher education realm, Tarrant worked for Whirlpool Corporation as the controller of the Canadian business unit and the director of finance for the Whirlpool brand in North America. Tarrant began his professional career as a financial analyst first at Trinova Corporation and later at Vickers Incorporated.

“Tarrant brings an understanding of the large scope and complex dynamics of the University’s financial enterprise and will provide NNU the financial leadership and guidance necessary to anticipate and meet the challenges and opportunities of Christian higher education in today’s economic environment,” stated Alexander.

“I’m excited to share my diverse professional experience in strategic financial management of for-profit and non-profit organizations to add value to the NNU leadership team,” said Tarrant.

The vice president for financial affairs provides leadership as an entrepreneurial strategic financial planner and gives oversight of the financial and operational functions including budgets, financial systems, information technology and the physical plant of the university.

“We are delighted that in God’s providence David Tarrant is joining the NNU President’s Cabinet. His expertise will follow and expand upon the operational systems built by retiring Vice President Dave Peterson,” stated Alexander.

Tarrant has been married to Maureen (Ryan) for 20 years. They have four children: Ian (19), Evan (15), Owen (14), Alissa (12). He will assume his leadership position July 1.
