A special exhibit titled “The Artful Life of Mary Shaffer” will be on display in the Freisen Galleries January 12 – November 16, and an exhibition reception will be held Tuesday, January 17, from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
NNU professor emeritus, an artist Dr. Mary Shaffer, painted in oil, acrylic and watercolor. She was an avid and serious art collector of contemporary sculpture and left a remarkable number of artworks to NNU’s Friesen Galleries upon her passing in 2010.
NNU Vice President for University Advancement Joel Pearsall said, “Dr. Mary Shaffer’s passion for art and take-charge approach to life have resulted in significant contributions to NNU’s art department since 1971. Dr. Shaffer impacted the lives of literally hundreds of students over her 49-year teaching career.”
A hardbound, full-color catalog of the exhibit is available for purchase. The catalog also includes a history of Shaffer’s role as an artist, collector and teacher. Contact Director Amanda Hamilton for more information at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The galleries are open Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. or by appointment. All events are free and open to the public. The Friesen Galleries are located on the second floor of the Brandt Center, 707 Fern St. in Nampa on the NNU campus.
