Boise Philharmonic Music Director Robert Franz and the Boise Philharmonic will present the world premier of Stella’s Musical Tour of America based on the story written by Robert Franz, Stella’s Musical Adventures.

The book will be narrated at the performance by returning guest, Astronaut Barbara Morgan. Music was chosen by Robert Franz that depicts the scenes through this adventurous children’s story.

The first in a series of stories, Stella’s Musical Adventures, is based on the award-winning education concerts created by Conductor Robert Franz. These programs/books use standard orchestral repertoire as “aural illustrations.” By listening with intent, children develop essential active listening skills.

In Stella’s Musical Tour of America, Stella establishes herself as a brave adventurer with an active imagination. From a hot air balloon, in just one day she sees the Mississippi River, Rocky Mountains, Pacific Ocean and finally the Grand Canyon before returning home. Along the way readers will hear the music she hears in her head as she discovers these amazing features.

Local schools, White Pine Elementary School in Boise with Lisa and Endeavor ES in Nampa with music teacher Tami Sherman, assisted Robert the past few months as focus groups on the story itself.

After reading the story to the students, Robert listened as the they filled him in on how they felt about the story.  Additional local schools, Christine Donnell Elementary School of the Arts and Pioneer Elementary School of the Arts, Meridian School District will be creating artwork to illustrate the story on a “big screen” at the performance on February 4, 2012.

Children’s Concerts that consist of some of the Stella music will be held on January 18-20, 2012 at Morrison Center and February 4, 2012 at NNU. The program is geared toward fourth and fifth grades.  Each year, nearly 14,000 children attend these exciting orchestral performances. For many students, this event is a first opportunity to hear live symphonic music. This is by invite only from Boise Philharmonic to local teachers and schools who are required to RSVP for their classes prior to the event. (Events Full)

The NNU concert is Sat., February 4, 2012 11:00a.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children.
