Piano master class held at NNU by Tchaikovsky International gold medal winner
Northwest Nazarene University, with the 1986 Tchaikovsky international piano competition gold medal winner Barry Douglas, conducted a piano master class in November. The Irish pianist was in the Treasure Valley to perform the Rachmaninoff “3rd Piano Concerto: with the Boise Philharmonic as part of its 50th anniversary season.
The master class consisted of student performances, critiqued by Mr. Douglas in front of an audience of NNU students and invited guests. NNU music industry major, Stephanie Myers, played a Ginastera piano solo and 13-year-old Nolan Nguyen performed a Scarlatti Sonata. Both are students of NNU piano professor Dr. Walden Hughes who organized the master class in conjunction with Dunkley Music. Other participants included a pianist from U.C.L.A., a Boise State University piano student as well as two pianists from BYU Idaho in Rexburg.
