Department of Music program scheduled for December 8

The Northwest Nazarene University Department of Music will present an evening of chamber music Thursday, December 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Brandt Center’s Swayne Auditorium.

Chamber works will be featured for various combinations of instruments, including piano, woodwind and string ensembles.  Piano ensembles will include a one-piano six-hand arrangement of Khachaturian’s “Sabre Dance,” a two-piano, eight-hand arrangement of Beethoven’s “Turkish March” and a one-piano, eight-hand arrangement of Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever,” arranged by NNU Professor of Music Dr. Walden Hughes.

String ensembles will perform Beethoven’s “String Quartet, Op. 18 No.1 (Scherzo)” and a selection of Christmas holiday favorites.  A clarinet, horn and piano trio will perform a Brahms-like trio by Henri Molbe, and a flute, oboe and cello trio will perform Haydn’s “London Trio Number 1.”  The string ensembles are coached by Dr. Jennifer Sullivan and the woodwinds by Jeffrey Barker, both NNU adjunct instructors.

Students participating in the ensemble performances include pianists Abbey Askren (Bend, Ore.); Lavinia Budurovici (Nampa, Idaho);  Jacqueline Fitch (Florence, Ore.); Michelle Huttema (Parma, Idaho); Jessica Jackson (Middleton, Idaho);  Devan Watt (Nampa, Idaho); Elli Winslow (Great Falls, Mont.); and Stephanie Thomas (Sparks, Nev.);  flautist Heidi Blessing (Nampa, Idaho); clarinetist Angela Myers (Sparks, Nev.);  hornist Jonathon Wren (Chandler,  Ariz.) ; violinists  Alex Duncan(Boise, Idaho); Kayla Fadenrecht (Salem Ore.); and Jocelyn Hepton (Nampa, Idaho);  violists, Carolyn Shannon (Caldwell, Idaho) and Seth Leija (Boise, Idaho); and cellist Danika Mclure (Middleton, Idaho).
