Volleyball camp hits record numbers

August 9, 2011, 10:49 am

Northwest Nazarene University’s volleyball team camp set new records this past week for participating teams and players. Coach Jared Sliger said, “We were off the charts and had to recruit additional gym space at Skyview and Liberty Charter High Schools to accommodate the 29 teams (300+ players) from Idaho, Washington and Oregon.” Not only did this year’s team camp beat previous year’s volleyball camp registrations, it also surpassed attendance at all other previous NNU sports camps.

The camp was open to all varsity and junior varsity teams. Teams were grouped by ability for practice time and tournament play. “Team camp is learning to play as a team — to sacrifice yourself for the good of something bigger,” Sliger said. “Our camp has become known for going beyond the technicalities of the game to equally stressing these other important factors. We believe they are what separate average teams from great ones, and we use this team camp to begin the process of understanding TEAM-first mentality.”
