“threaded whispers” focus of NNU senior art show
Northwest Nazarene University student Shanae Galloway (Nampa) is exhibiting her senior art show, threaded whispers, in the Friesen Galleries the week of March 21.
Galloway describes her work as “personal and subtle,” consisting of words embroidered on fabric. Each piece is a personal article—handkerchief, gloves, shawl. She uses a nuanced color palette, which requires the viewer to step closer; some even invite the viewer to touch.
The work deals with human emotion and the imperfections of life. Galloway sees this introspective body of work as collaboration with Emily Dickinson. Dickinson’s poetry is embroidered on each piece in the show. Galloway gives form to Dickinson’s words while Dickinson eloquently articulates the feelings each object is created to embody.
The show will be on display March 21-25 in the Friesen Galleries located on the second floor of the NNU Brandt Center (707 Fern St., Nampa). A reception with the artist will take place Tuesday, March 22, 4:30-6:30 p.m.
