Northwest Nazarene University invites the community to the chapel service Fri, Oct. 16, when alumnus Rev. Verne Ward III will be presented with an honorary doctorate.

Ward, an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene, is currently serving as the Asia-Pacific Regional Director. He previously ministered in Papua New Guinea until 2005. Eleven of those years he spent as the field strategy coordinator for Melanesia Field, which included the nations of Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, East Timor and Vanuatu.

In 2005 Ward was elected as the Asia-Pacific Regional Director and now lives in Singapore.   In this leadership ministry he has emphasized the need for discipleship, creative outreach, mentoring of leadership and development of the local church.

Ward has been chosen for this honor because of the unswerving service and outstanding leadership he has displayed as regional director and throughout his lifetime. He and his wife Natalie, along with their four children, began their ministry with the Church of the Nazarene in the country of Papua New Guinea. The Wards have been missionaries for nearly 26 years.

The ceremony will take place in the Swayne Auditorium, Friday, October 16, at 10:10am.
