Faculty Award Lecture at NNU
Northwest Nazarene University’s twelfth annual Faculty Award Lecture Series will feature Dr. Jay Akkerman. Akkerman will deliver his lecture entitled “Picturing Holiness: A Visual History.”
The presentation is based on research conducted in conjunction with the Church of the Nazarene’s centennial celebration in October 2008. Dr. Akkerman’s research focused on the nine Nazarene churches in the Pacific Northwest that were planted prior to the foundation of the denomination in 1908. The lecture will make use of pictures and other visual aspects that played a role in the history of these churches.
Akkerman is professor of pastoral theology at NNU and is also a faculty member of NNU’s online Master of Arts in religion. Responding to Dr. Akkerman’s lecture will be Dr. Edwin Crawford, associate professor of philosophy, Northwest Nazarene University.
The lecture will be held Tues, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Brandt Center Grand Lobby, located at 707 Fern. The event is free, and the public is invited to attend.
