Facilitator/Conversational English Teacher

DESCRIPTION

No teaching certificate or ESL/TESOL training required.  Also no support-raising required. Help Chinese English teachers improve their spoken English while reflecting the love of Christ.

Facilitators lead dynamic conversational group activities in the classroom, teach about American culture and Christian values, and spend individual time with students outside the classroom. Chinese primary, middle, and high school English teachers come from all over the country to participate in the Total Immersion Program: 18 days of an English-only environment on the campus of Peking University in Beijing, China.

We offer 11-month teaching contracts in Beijing, China.

Required duties: lead groups of 20-50 adults, prepare lessons and activities, work as part of a team, live in community with other teachers, adapt to a new culture, work flexible hours.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree in any subject, be a resident/passport holder of an English speaking country such as USA, Canada, Australia, U.K.  Have a heart to serve Christ, a positive attitude, ability to collaborate in a team environment and the ability to adjust to last minute changes as necessary.

Missionary Teacher

DESCRIPTION

We are presently seeking mission-minded teachers who are willing to work on either a short-term (2-3 months) or long-term (6 months or longer) basis.

**General Responsibilities of the Teachers**

Each teacher reports directly to the Director. The teacher's responsibilities include:

1. Providing daily instruction to the MICS' students, according to the MICS' curriculum
2. Promoting an atmosphere of integrity, rigorous effort, intellectual vigor, and respect for others
3. Continuing to grow professionally through increased knowledge of subject matter and teaching methodology
4. Implementing the MICS' mission, as well as the rules and procedures in the Faculty and Parent Handbooks
5. Notifying parents in a timely manner of students’ scholastic progress and behavior
6. Submitting to the Director, for advance approval, all general mailings and all notices to parents
7. Attending meetings scheduled by the Director both before and after the school day and before and after the academic year, and supporting MICS-sponsored activities and events
8. Bringing to the attention of the Director needed curricular materials and supplies
9. Bringing to the attention of the Director any health or safety concerns or hazards
10. Fulfilling other school related responsibilities assigned by the director

Teachers should be able to perform and display the following:

I. Classroom teaching
a. Fulfillment of such basic responsibilities as meeting classes regularly and punctually, being available to students for out-of-class assistance, returning tests and papers promptly and returning tests and papers promptly
b. Implementation of the curriculum and methodology specified in the Reference Guide
c. Ability to organize and plan instruction around defined objectives
d. Ability to communicate course content clearly, systematically, forcefully, and enthusiastically
e. Sensitivity to student difficulties, concerns, and questions in such a way as to maintain the respect of students, parents, and colleagues
f. Maintenance and timely submission of academic records
g. Effective evaluation of students.
II. Professional Growth
a. Continuance of one's education through seminar and conference attendance, in-service training, enrollment in graduate courses, and reading of authoritative journals
b. Formal presentations at seminars, conferences, or in-service training workshops.

III. Service to MICS and the Community
a. Planning and implementing special student activities that reflect the MICS’ mission
b. Volunteering to lead extracurricular activities
c. Service as a cooperating teacher for a student teacher and/or interns
d. Supporting MICS events
e. Speaking on behalf of MICS and seeing that the School is well represented in community events.
f. Active participation and service/ministry in a local church (i.e. All school-sponsored foreign staff must attend and serve in the sponsoring church)
g. Participation in local charities and/or community service opportunities
