DESCRIPTION | The Emerson National Hunger Fellows Program is a leadership development program that trains, inspires, and sustains emerging leaders committed to social justice. Program participants gain practical experience fighting hunger & poverty through placements in community-based organizations across the country, as well as policy experience through placements in Washington, D.C. In this unique program bridging community-based efforts & national public policy, Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellows develop as effective leaders in the movement to end hunger & poverty. Each year, 20 participants are selected from around the country for this year long program. |
SELECTION CRITERIA | Must be committed to social justice, demonstrate leadership qualities & skills, committed to anti-racism, Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, & U.S. Citizen or permanent resident. |
SALARY/BENEFITS | $16,000 annual living allowance with health insurance, travel expenses, housing placement, $3500 end of service award, & more other benefits. |

Juvenile Investigations: Research best practices nation wide for school safety plans and develop school safety plans for Ada County. This would include interviewing school admin., teachers, and school resource officers and then writing the plan. | |
STEP (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program: Work on an unbiased policing project performing some data analysis and preliminary studies on traffic issues. May also include traffic studies. Intern may also assist with VIN number checks and abandoned vehicle coordination. | |

This program allows approximately 300 hours of professional internship experience. The package includes housing, internship placement, courses for credit, and special events.
