MissionalLeadershipChoices, choices. You’ll have a lot of them when you pursue your fully online Master of Divinity or Master of Arts degree from Northwest Nazarene University’s School of Theology & Christian Ministries.

NNU offers 10 graduate degree tracks, or specializations, from which to choose. Many of our graduate students choose the Missional Leadership track as their area of focus. Here’s why: As men and women who have responded to God’s leading, we know that ministry is much more than meeting budgets, paying bills, or making sure the seats are filled every weekend. While these have their place, these “realities” can really take the joy right out of you and your ministry. Ultimately, ministry is about God’s transforming mission of reaching the world with Jesus’ love.

NNU’s Missional Leadership specialization is a great way to recharge your ministerial batteries—and those of your congregation, too. It’s designed to help you think biblically, theologically, and, yes, practically about taking your church outside its walls to impact your broader community.

Both inhaling and exhaling are essential to life. Similarly, ministry needs to be about more than simply attracting people to your church and getting them to return week after week. There has to be an outlet, too, a way to impact the community, a way, everyday, to engage with the world. We need both inhalation and exhalation or else our expiration will soon be evident!

When leaders approach ministry from a missional perspective, and help their congregations to do the same, a wonderful thing happens: people find their church by discovering the God who’s been seeking to find them all along. And once they arrive, thanks to your coursework in our Missional Leadership track, you can lead and empower them to share their lives with the world.

As part of your studies, you’ll also have opportunities from time to time to join my colleagues and me in a variety of more personal and interactive ways. From live webcasts with professors, to participating in public online venues where students share their perspectives on ministry, or even to an optional fieldtrip with me to Seattle where you’ll get to engage with some of the textbook authors you’re reading. At NNU, we don’t offer merely correspondence courses. You’ll be engaged.

Apply now to pursue your online graduate degree at NNU. Once you’re admitted, you’ll participate in “On-Ramp,” our two-week orientation, before your first class starts. After On-Ramp, you’re under no obligation to continue your studies, but we’re confident you’ll want to continue on to pursue your degree by specializing in Missional Leadership or one of our other tracks.

If you want to join God’s great mission of taking your church outside its wall and engaging our world with Jesus’ love, our Master of Divinity and Master of Arts tracks in Missional Leadership are for you!
