NNU MDiv, MA: You Have Options

When it comes to pursuing your Master of Divinity or Master of Arts degree from Northwest Nazarene University’s School of Theology & Christian Ministries, you have a lot of options. Ten of them, to be exact. That’s the number of graduate degree tracks NNU offers. All of them are fully online with no residential requirements.

If you pursue an MDiv, your options are:

If you pursue an MA, your options are:

But first things first: MDiv or MA? We’ll dive more deeply into this topic in next week’s blog, but the short answer is—it depends on you.

What’s going on in your life? What’s leading you down this path? If your goal is ordained ministry or to someday earn a doctor of ministry degree, then you’ll likely want the MDiv. If you want to test the waters, so to speak, or you’re seeking personal spiritual development, pursue the MA. The good news: If you’re like so many others who fell in love with their MA studies, you can switch to the MDiv later without losing any ground.

Another thing to keep in mind: Time. While many seminaries require upward of 100 credits, thus taking most students 5-6 years to complete their degrees, NNU’s MDiv is much leaner at just 74 semester credits. By taking one course at a time, you can complete your MDiv in about 4½ years. Most of our MAs can be completed in as little as 21 months—and you’ll have summers off!
