The Eagle has landed.  Last week we completed the installation of a spectacular jade eagle on the second floor of Helstrom Business Center.  The eagle sculpture has a seven-foot wingspan and sits atop a custom stand which depicts the Great Wall of China.  The Jade Eagle was purchased by Dr. Ron Galloway and Dr. Bill Russell during an MBA trip to Bejing, China two summers ago.  Our friend has had quite a trip.  The eagle was shipped from China but sadly arrived with a broken wing.  The group in China that sold the eagle had promised to insure the sculpture; when they learned that the eagle had lost a wing, they opted to send a second eagle.  This one also arrived with a broken wing.  We had started to despair that we would ever be able to display our friend (either of them.) 

Fortunately, we found amongst our MBA students a gifted artisan (George Condit) who was able to put the Eagle back into shape.  The original sculptors had created separately carved wings and attached them; George was able to skillfully reattach and repair the broken wing. 

Now the Jade Eagle wants to endow a scholarship to be given annually to an NNU Business Student.  Jade Eagles, however, have no money of their own.  If you want to honor our newest permanent Helstrom resident, please contribute to the Jade Eagle Scholarship.  Any contribution will be appreciated, and when we gather enough money to fund the scholarship, the Jade Eagle Scholarship will start paying out.  You can pledge a donation to the Jade Eagle Scholarship by sending an email to Dr. Russell at wjrussell@nnu.edu and include the words Jade Eagle Scholarship in the subject line.  Please help. 

Now we are going to have George repair the second eagle and we will try to find an appropriate home for that magnificent bird…let us know if you have any ideas:  the second eagle will move in return for an appropriate contribution to the Eagle Scholarship Fund.
