Jere Dick -73- was recently chosen to be an Associate Administrator of the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. As Associate Administrator, Dr. Dick will focus on leading APHIS’ Business Process Improvement efforts, supporting the Agency’s emergency response community, and ensuring the field perspective is considered when APHIS makes decisions. He will also focus on supporting the work of Veterinary Services (VS), Wildlife Services (WS), and International Services
Dolores (Tycz) -73- and Leon McGoldrick celebrated 60 years of marriage on September 6, 2013. They were married at the Old St. Pauls Church in Nampa, Idaho in 1953.
Vance (75) and Juanita (75) Frankamp spent the last 6 and a half years working in Chiang Mai, Thailand. There they started a non-profit charitable organization called River Crossing. You can find it at rivercrossing.asia. Their work was with hill-tribe children living in children's homes. The focus was to provide seed money for small business enterprises that young people can participate in that will provide dignity and work skills for the future. They are back in the U.S., but the work is ongoing.
Dr. Mary Sweatt McGuire - 78- along with her research partner Dr. Lori Conlon Khan have published their research findings in an article in the Winter 2014 edition of the Orff Echo. Their article, Reading with Rhythm, explores the use of Orff Schulwerk strategies as a reading intervention option. Dr. McGuire is currently a reading specialist for the Boise School District.
Jim Jones -79- has retired after 34 years of teaching, but has accepted a part time position at Nampa Christian High School teaching PE and coaching Varsity Women's Basketball. Jim taught in the Fruitland School District for 27 years and has coached basketball over 20 years.
Daniel Wiese -79- is the newest volunteer chaplain for the local police and fire departments, in Juneau, Alaska.
Tim Szymanowski -82- has joined the University of Hawaiʻi Foundation as executive director of development. Tim will work with the deans and directors of the College of Natural Sciences, Lyon Arboretum, SOEST, and IFA to expand fundraising efforts and broaden philanthropic support for each of these science-related areas.
Carol Beth (Crane) Hawn -83-, of Eagle, Idaho, received a Master of Music, Performance (Piano) degree from Boise State University in December of 2012. She teaches private piano lessons and also is adjunct faculty for Boise Bible College, teaching private piano lessons and a keyboard class.
Sven Olson (85) is retiring after 27 years in the Army National Guard. He is returning to the USA after five years overseas in Germany and Ukraine. He has opened a Farm Bureau Financial Services agency in Oro Valley, Arizona.
Chris McNaught -89- recently published a book entitled, "Less is More Than Enough." It is about his journey to simplify his life, how he has dealt with physical challenges the last several years, and how he is learning to seek significance in the midst of life's turmoil. The lessons he is learning are teaching him to live a life of contentment.
Lance McGrath -92- joins the library at C of I after working at the library of Northwest Nazarene University since 2005.
Debbie Wheeler -95- has been named executive director of Hands of Hope Northwest. The nonprofit organization collects medical equipment and supplies and donates them to people in need. Wheeler has been with the organization since 2006.
Suzanne Mondell -96- has recently completed her second master's degree, in social work at the University of Southern California (2013). Over the past decade she has been an ordained Salvation Army minister, serving in various locations and appointments throughout California. Many of her responsibilities, in addition to pastoral, have been to connect the Church with serving others in social services and focusing on the evil of human trafficking. She is currently a therapist with a Middle Eastern Immigrant agency working with victims of domestic violence and immigration concerns. Suzanne currently resides in San Diego, CA.
Tessa (Phillips) Martinson -96- is now the Principal of Morning Son Christian School (Preschool - 6th grade), an interdenominational ministry of the Church of the Nazarene of Fergus Falls, MN.
Robert Ellis (96) is doing volunteer work at The Blazing Hope Youth Family Ranch. It is a Christian based nonprofit organization free to the community horse ranch. He helps care for up to 30 head of horses. He has seen God touch the kids’ hearts through the care of horses and as they learn to ride.
Shemia Fagan -03- has been included on the 2014 “40 Under 40” list produced by the Portland Business Journal. Each year the Business Journal selects 40 professionals who have excelled in their field, shown tremendous leadership, and are committed to the community. Shemia was elected from District 51 to the Oregon House of Representatives in 2012, serving on the Business/Labor Committees and as the Vice-Chair of the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee. Following NNU, Shemia received her Juris Doctor from the Lewis & Clark Law School.
Jason Van Winkle -04- has joined Zions Bank at the Eagle and Chinden Financial Center in Boise as a vice president and commercial relationship manager. He will be responsible for developing and maintaining banking relationships with business customers.
Jeremy -05- and Libby (Tedder) -07- Hugus were married last fall and are living in Casper, Wyoming. Jeremy joined the firm of Murane and Bostwick in Casper in May and focuses his practice on civil and criminal litigation and medical malpractice defense. He also continues to teach online bioethics courses as an adjunct professor for Regis University in Denver, Colorado and he works for the Clinical Ethics Consultancy, LLC in Denver as a consultant and faculty lecturer.
Ian Eastman –MA 08- was recently awarded a certificate in youth & theology from the Institute for Youth Ministry at Princeton Theological Seminary. The certificate was the culmination of almost three years work integrating the tools of practical theology and best practices in adolescent development. His final project, “A Promising Model for Faith Formation,” described how congregations and families can integrate youth ministry into the total rhythm of life.
Kyle -08- and Kristen (Parke) -11- Mayer have returned to Nampa where Kyle is working as a Product Yield Enhancement Engineer at Micron and Kristen is serving as the Children's Pastor at Karcher Church of the Nazarene.
Benjamin Cremer -08- has moved to Boise and is the pastor of Boise Euclid Church. He completed his Master of Arts in Theological Studies at Nazarene Theological Seminary and was involved with young adult ministries at Kansas City First Church.
Shawna Jaurez -08- has been hired as the head of the softball program at Edmonds Community College in Lynnwood, Washington. Juarez has experience playing softball at both the community college and university levels and has coached high school and select teams.
Shawn Hyde -08- has been hired by Yeo & Yeo CPAs & Business Consultants as a business valuation manager. He joins the firm's Business Valuation & Litigation Support Group.
Travis Forrest -10- entered his first year with the Idaho Stampede as an Account Executive after completing an internship with the team during the 2012-13 season. His responsibilities include sales of sponsorships, season tickets, mini-plans, group tickets and suites, as well as assisting with ticketing and game day operations.
Jack Carpenter -10- has joined Northwest Bank in Boise as vice president and treasury management officer. He is also a member of the Boise Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee and the Northwest Nazarene University Alumni Association.
Derek Sepe -12- is fully enrolled in the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California. He is producing multiple projects, collaborating on screenplays, and networking with internships.
Chelsie (Collins) Kaschmitter -12- is marketing and communications coordinator for Mission Avaiation Fellowship in Nampa in MAF's learning technologies department. She previously worked as a marketing and social media assistant for a local advertising agency.
Criselda DeLaCruz-Valdez (12) has been selected, by the city of Nampa, as executive director of the Family Justice Center. She has worked for the Family Justice Center since 2008 in various capacities. Before that, she was at Northern Virginia Family Services in Alexandria, Va.
Kelly Cook -13- is currently teaching English to elementary school students in the Republic of Korea and successfully wrote, illustrated, and published her first children's book earlier this year using the online crowdfunding website Kickstarter. Her book, "The Mighty-Fine Adventure of Piper and Floyd," tells the simple story of a girl (Piper) and a giraffe (Floyd) who get lost and try to find their way back home.
Greg Wiles -EdD-2013- is superintendent of Nampa Christian Schools. He comes to this position following twelve years with the Nampa School District, most recently as principal of Lone Star Middle School since its opening in 2008. In 2010 Greg won the Middle Level Principal of the Year award from the Idaho Association of Secondary Administrators, and was named the 2010 Transformational Leader of the Year by the National Association of Elementary School Principals.
