About the NNU Foundation
For more than 15 years the Northwest Nazarene University Foundation, Inc. has served as a vital and energizing support organization for the University. In doing so, the Foundation plays an important role in making the institution a leader among Christian comprehensive universities. Private financial support infuses life into virtually all academic and support programs at Northwest Nazarene University. This in turn enhances the student experience at NNU and helps to accelerate the development of the next generation of Christian leaders in the church, the marketplace, and the world.
Established in 1988, the purpose of the Northwest Nazarene University Foundation, Inc. is to assist the University with strategic funding needs that are outside the scope of normal budgetary planning. The Foundation is a separate, independent organization chartered by the State of Idaho and designated by the Internal Revenue Service as a 5019(c)(3) non-profit corporation.
The Foundation Board of Directors, currently 20 members, serves the NNU Board of Trustees. A 10-member elected Executive Committee meets regularly and is authorized to act on behalf of the Directors. Board Directors also offer expertise and guidance to the university community through active participation on four standing committees: Board Development, Foundation Relations, Fund Development, and Investment.
In addition, the Foundation Board of Directors maintains a fiduciary responsibility for the management and investment of the university's endowment fund. A number of directors have taken an additional step as advocates by personally establishing and funding endowed student scholarships. As of July 2003, past and present directors have established 18 endowed scholarship funds with a present value of more than $1,500,000.

Our Values
Faith, development, innovation, stewardship, and partnership guide our interactions, decisions and work.
"Nearly every new building on our campus has been achieved through the leadership, generosity and vision of the Northwest Nazarene University Foundation Board of Directors. We are extremely grateful to these who have made such significant commitments to assist NNU. They are making a major difference in the lives of our students—not only for today, but for generations to come."
— Gary Skaggs, Former Vice-President of University AdvancementWhy does NNU need additional charitable contributions?
Operating a private educational institution in a way that balances tuition costs and the need to continually add value to the student experience is a challenge that we take very seriously. Northwest Nazarene University has been blessed with generous aid from many individuals and friends, and congregational support from the Church of the Nazarene.
However, even with this significant help, students are charged for only approximately 70% of the actual cost of providing their education. The remaining gap must come from private contributions. Particularly in need are funds for campus facility improvements, which have become even more necessary as the physical campus ages.
The need to upgrade facilities and the campus infrastructure is very high on our priority list. For private institutions such as NNU, this is a difficult task to accomplish because of the necessity to find funding sources outside of our normal operation budgets, and to complete the bulk of these projects without impacting student tuition.
The NNU Foundation Board of Directors has successfully launched many initiatives that have resulted in securing funds for the construction and acquisition of much-needed facilities.
Some campus projects for which the Foundation Board has played a strong leadership role in obtaining gifts and donations include the John and Orah Brandt Fine Arts & Convocation Center, the Lucile Little Prayer Chapel, the Helstrom Business Center, the Admissions Office & Welcome Center, the relocation of the track and field, and the remodel/addition to Montgomery Field House.
