E-Learning Services

E-Learning Services is happy to help faculty and students maximize their online teaching and learning experience. Part of the School of Learning Resources, E-Learning Services provides coaching in online course design and training for a variety of teaching applications used at NNU.

Our Mission Statement
The mission of E-Learning Services is to support the efforts of the NNU community to effectively use e-learning technologies in teaching and learning. We promote achievement of the institutional outcomes by encouraging the use of best practices in online education and providing excellent customer service.

E-Learning Technologies

ANGEL

ANGEL Learning is the Course Management System at Northwest Nazarene University, used to conduct fully online courses and to supplement face-to-face courses.

Streaming Media 

A do-it-yourself station for creating streamed video and audio is available in Technology and Media Resources (Wiley Learning Center 119), or E-Learning TAs can take care of this for you at no charge.

 

Tk20

E-Learning Services provides training support for Tk20, a new assessment/ reporting tool being used by the Education and Counselor Education departments.

 

TurnItIn 

NNU licenses this plagiarism-detection software to encourage academic integrity. Support and training materials are available for both faculty and students.

 

Web 2.0 Tools

More and more instructors are choosing to use blogs,wikis and podcasts to engage their students. NNU licenses Learning Objects Campus Pack to make this easy.

 

Other Technologies

E-Learning Services also provides assistance with a variety of other uses of technology, including the use of Microsoft Office, copyright and fair use issues, and the use of screen-capture software.

Our office is located on the lower level of the Emerson Administration Building. You are welcome to visit us at any time, or to request a consultation in your own office. We are part of the School of Learning Resources and report to Dr. Sharon Bull.

Crystal Nielsen

Instructional Technologist for E-Learning

Crystal Nielsen, M.A., develops and delivers training to faculty, students and staff in the use of ANGEL and other applications. She also assists instructors with pedagogical concerns, especially where technologies may help achieve desired goals.

Crystal earned her Master's degree in Educational Technology from San Diego State University in 2003 and her B.A. in writing/journalism from Point Loma Nazarene College. She is currently the Past Chair of the Northwest eLearning Community, a consortium of eLearning professionals from Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

E-Learning Student Staff

An E-Learning TA can help faculty and adjuncts with course development using ANGEL and other online technologies, such as: 

  • copying content between Masters and Official shells
  • creating online tests
  • preparing streamed media
  • making course banners, and
  • other projects both basic and complex that either you do not do very often or that are time-consuming

Information Technology Assistance

E-Learning Services enjoys a helpful relationship with the office of Information Technology, specifically through our system administrator and the help desk.

Technology and Media Resources

Our help desk is the department of Technology and Media Resources, which provides support to all employees and students regarding ANGEL courses and user accounts, NNU e-mail, computer access, streaming media, phones and other applications. Ted Wheeler is the executive director of TMR.

Carlyle King

E-Learning Systems Manager

Carlyle King, M.S., manages ANGEL accounts, courses and enrollments as well as those in Campus Pack. A key responsibility is to provide Tier 2 troubleshooting for issues related to e-learning, thereby keeping those systems running smoothly. Carlyle is part of the Network team and reports to Tim Gross.

Carlyle holds a master's degree in educational technology from Boise State University and a bachelor's degree in information systems from Western Washington University.
