ED 550 Drug and Alcohol in Schools (2)

This course is designed to give you a more comprehensive understanding of alcohol, drugs and their influences in the classroom.  Drugs & Alcohol in Schools provides a contextual framework for understanding what students may be experiencing through their own substance use or the impact of substance use around them.   The course provides a basic historical perspective of substance use along with biological, psychological, and social factors that comprise the disease of addiction.   This program will help you better understand a multitude of complex dynamics that contribute to this biological and social phenomenon.   Although there are no specific prerequisites for this course, a background in education, psychology, social work, or mental health with experience in the field of education, psychology, or classroom and school management will help teachers assimilate information more efficiently.  A basic understanding of school policies and procedures is also suggested. The software program is designed to be loaded onto the hard drive of your personal computer from a compact disk (CD).
