Roosevelt Street

Students of the Mass Comm program are currently in pre-production on a feature length film.

Roosevelt Street is the story of a family going through a crisis -- a crisis of caregiving.  At fifteen, Jed is ready for a summer of skateboards, pools, camping and beaches.  But when his grandfather -- a victim of Alzheimer's --  moves in with the family, Jed suddenly finds himself thrust into the role of caregiver.  At first resentful, Jed eventually begins to value the time he has with his grandpa, and both their lives improve because of the relationship.  Summer doesn't seem such a loss to Jed, until his father becomes jealous of that relationship.  This tension, and the many frustrations of caregiving, threaten to tear the family apart.  If they are to survive, each member of the family must work to find a solution.

Roosevelt Street is based on reams of research, including interviews with families and personal accounts of caregivers.  It was written specifically for Mass Comm students to produce, and will be a two-hour feature film, shot on 35mm.  It will tentatively star Academy Award winner George Kennedy, and award winning cinematographer Michael Margulies will guide the photography.
In May of 2004, students and faculty spent two days filming a prototype trailer for the film.
