Buckhorn Mountain Boys

Buckhorn Mountain Boys - First formed in Oregon in 1976, the Buckhorn Mountain Boys reorganized in March 2002 and play traditional bluegrass music based out of Nampa, Idaho. The Buckhorn Mountain Boys features veteran musicians whose careers have spanned over 25 years in various Idaho and Pacific Northwest bluegrass bands.

The Buckhorn Mountain Boys sound is centered on the lead vocals of Al Jackson. Al is also BMBs guitar and mandolin player. He caught the bluegrass bug in the early 70s, and was the founder of the original Buckhorn Mountain Boys. After moving to Idaho in 1982, he produced and hosted a weekly bluegrass show on local radio in Boise Idaho. Mike Bond plays banjo and could be considered as one of the pioneers of bluegrass music in Idaho. Mike played with some very early bands in the state and then went on to form and play with “Ragged but Right” for 17 years. Mike was also one of the founders of the Idaho Bluegrass Association. He sings tenor harmony lending to the bands “high lonesome sound”. Rue Frisbee is BMBs fiddle player as is widely known throughout Idaho as one of the most tasteful bluegrass fiddlers. Rue also is no newcomer to Idaho bluegrass having played with “Too Far Gone” for 15 years as well as other bluegrass and country bands. He also plays guitar, sings harmony on the quartets, and provides the bands comic relief. Donna Bond is the fourth member of the band playing stand-up bass. Her energy and drive contribute to the Buckhorn Mountain Boys powerhouse rhythm section and her harmony vocals fill the bands powerful and edgy trios. Donna also played for 17 years with “Ragged but Right” with her husband Mike.

The Buckhorn Mountain Boys have recorded and released three self-produced CDs. “Take the Backroad Home,” “LIVE Warts and All,” and last summer, "One More River." These albums have received some radio play and have been sold throughout the U.S. and abroad. CD's can be purchased through their website. The Buckhorn Mountain Boys were also recently selected as one of the Top 5 bands in Boise for 2004 by the Boise Weekly Newspaper.
