Earning High School Crew Points

There are many ways to earn both Production and Academic HS points...

PRODUCTION POINTS (earn up to 30)

High School Video Team

If your school has a video production class, video year book, or similar supervised activity, you can earn points for time you spend in actual production. For instance, if your school offers a Broadcasting class which "airs" a daily or weekly newscast, you can earn one point for every two hours you spend in actual production (not class work or lectures). If your school doesn’t offer a class or formal supervised activity, you can still earn points by working on a project for the school and asking a school administrator to monitor and verify your work. Use HSCP Form #1.

TV Station / Production House

Local TV stations in smaller markets often hire high school students to operate cameras, run the teleprompter, etc. Production houses also sometimes hire high schoolers. You can earn one HS Crew Point for every two hours you work at such a job (paid or unpaid). Use HSCP Form #1.

Church Media Team

Earn one HS Crew Point for every two hours you spend in supervised video production, sound production, or digital media production for your church. This includes any significant production activities: operating a camera or sound board during services, producing a video for your youth group, etc. Only actual production time counts! If you operate a camera only during the sermon, you count the sermon time, not the length of the entire service. Requires the signature of a pastor, youth pastor, media minister, or similar. Use HSCP Form #1 or #2.

Produce Your Own Short Films

You can earn points for making your own (digital) movies – one point for every two hours of actual production (not planning, thinking about, etc.). You must keep a written record of the hours you spend on the project, and those hours must be verified by a parent or guardian, so be sure to keep them informed and aware. Once you’ve finished the project, submit a copy of the film and your "time sheet" to earn your points. Use HSCP Form #2.

NNU Visits

NNU offers several opportunities for students to visit the campus during the year (preview days, etc.). You can even schedule a personal visit and tour at any time. If we happen to be shooting a film or television program during your visit, you are welcome to observe, or even help, and earn HS Crew Points at the same time. As a participant in the HS Crew Points program you will receive regular email updates on our planned productions. Please note that we must limit the number of high school students who actually help "on set" for most productions, so only the first few to submit a signed permission form will be allowed to work. However, all participants in the program are welcome to observe. Use HSCP Form #3.

ACADEMIC POINTS (earn up to 30)

Festivals, Seminars, Workshops

Earn 2 points for every film you watch at a film festival, or for every class or workshop you attend at a professional seminar, conference, etc. Submit a copy of the film festival or conference program or brochure, along with the signature of a parent or guardian. Use HSCP Form #3.

Read A Book

You can earn 4 HS Crew Points by reading one of the books on our bibliography list.   Requires the signature of a parent or guardian.

Use HSCP Form #3.

Watch A Movie

Many high schools now offer a media, cinema, or pop culture class. Full length films you watch in class count toward your HS Crew Points (teacher signature required). Or you can watch one of the films on our viewing list (parent signature required).  If either case, you can earn one HS Crew Point for each film. Use HSCP Form #3.

ONCE YOU’VE BEEN ACCEPTED TO THE HS CREW POINTS PROGRAM, SUBMIT THE APPROPRIATE HS CREW POINTS FORM EACH TIME YOU COMPLETE ONE OF THE ACTIVITIES ABOVE
