Mail Quarantine

NNU has SPAM filtering software that scans your incoming e-mail and places suspected SPAM in a quarantine folder so that your inbox will be protected from the majority of junk e-mail.  To check your quarantine folder, go to http://xanthus.nnu.edu/quarantine.  Login with your usual Novell network user name and password.

After logging in, you will see a report of all email messages that have been caught in the spam filter.  The purpose of this report is to give you a chance to review the messages it has filtered so that you can be sure that it is not filtering e-mail you wish to receive.

If you see a message that you want to read before deleting or releasing it, simply click on the message and it will open up in a preview box.  If you want to release it, close the preview and then click the checkbox beside the message.  Click “Select Action” in the gray bar at the top of the window.  If you would like to receive the message in your inbox, click the “Release” button.  The email should arrive in your email box shortly.  You may also click “Release and report as legitimate email” to allow future messages from this sender to go directly to your GroupWise email box. You will be asked to confirm how to handle messages in the future from this sender.  (Please note that if the sender is not also listed as a trusted sender in your GroupWise preferences, it might end up in your junk mail folder in your regular mailbox.)

To delete messages, click the checkbox beside each message you wish to delete.  If you want to delete all of the messages, you may click the top box at the top of the window and all of the messages will be automatically checked down the entire list.  Click “Delete and purge” in the gray part of the window, and the selected messages will be deleted.

An email is sent to your GroupWise inbox every three to four days to alert you that spam may be in your quarantine folder.  It will list the emails and will offer you the chance to release any messages you want to keep, or you may simply tell it to delete all spam.

If you want to keep any of the messages, release them before you delete the spam messages.

If you do not take any action, the suspect emails will be automatically deleted 15 days after you have been notified of their presence.  To avoid losing important emails, you may want to check the quarantine more often, and to add legitimate senders to “Email Settings” in the spam blocker.
