Step 2: Choosing a Program and Factors to Consider

Academic and Personal Goals?

What are your academic and personal goals?

a. It is a good idea to look over the affiliate programs listed below to get a sense of the types of courses available.

     i. Some offer primarily general education courses (CCCU programs), while others emphasize language skills (Cuernavaca and the CCCU Latin America Studies program).

ii. Some offer general education courses and also emphasize service opportunities (the Romania program).

iii. Some programs are likely to offer both general education courses as well as major-specific courses (NNU sister schools).

iv. Some programs are specifically Christian (CCCU programs, the Romania program, or NNU sister schools) while others are secular (Cuernavaca).

b. It is critical that you discuss your desire to study abroad with your parents and your advisor since spending a semester away from NNU may have a significant effect on your ability to graduate on time. Are there specific types of courses you need (e.g. language, general education, courses specific to your major) that could be fulfilled in a study abroad program?

c. Eligibility for transfer credit from off-campus programs:

     i. General Education: The registrar will determine the transferability of any courses that are to substitute for general education requirements.

ii. Major Requirements: Your advisor has the authority to approve credits that will apply to your major.
