NNU's Writing Center exists to support students and faculty in their efforts to develop fine writing. Peer writing consultants and faculty will work with students on any level of writing and on all kinds and aspects of writing. Using the writing process, we help student writers produce the best writing they can. Consultants are very familiar with the NNU Research Guide, and the MLA and APA style requirements.
Any NNU student can spend time with a trained and qualified fellow student who is prepared to offer as much help as is needed to succeed in a specific course. The tutoring service is free of charge to NNU students; the tutors are able to help in a variety of ways, including discussing course concepts and providing tips on how to prepare for and do well on exams and assignments.
A variety of academic courses are available which are designed to strengthen your academic abilities. These courses include college study methods, reading (speed, comprehension, vocabulary building, and analysis), English grammar and mechanics, math, and computer courses (all courses 1 credit each). The purpose of these courses is to help you brush up on skills in order to help you become stronger in your course work and in standardized test taking.
Advising
ASC Faculty are always available to meet with students who have acacdemic concerns. At the beginning and end of each semester faculty can assist students in Liberal Studies and Applied Studies to set up a course schedule. Faculty can direct students to specific courses or tutors who will be able to address the concerns student may have, such as test taking, study methods, time management, preparation for standardized testing, and many other academic concerns.
Advising Students with Learning Disabilities
In keeping with the Americans with Disabilities Act and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, NNU provides reasonable accommodations to students with documented learning disabilities or pyschological disabilities. An initial interview with the Advisor to Students with Learning Disabilities providing documentation of the disability is necessary in order to obtain accommodations.
