Cornerstone: Introduction to Academic Inquiry

FAQ's about the assignment

Q: When is it REALLY Due?
A: February 27, Wednesday, 11:00 p.m.

Q: Is there any point in handing the assignment in late?
A:  Yes.  The objective of this assignment (or learning experience, as we prefer to call it!) is to familiarize you with the resources you will need to use.  It is still worth doing -- even if you hand it in late.  Late assignments will be accepted until March 14, 2008.  However, you will be given an automatic 1 point deduction when it is graded.

Q: Where do I find a radio/tv transcript?
A: From the library page select "Databases" and "Newsbank" and select "Access Newswires and Transcripts" from the menu on the left.  Select a few networks that you know, type in your topic, change the search to "Lead paragraph/headline"

Q: How do I cite a radio/tv transcript if I'm using Word 2007?
A: Use the "Document from a Website" option for your template.  The "Name of Web page" = the title of your program and the "Name of Website" = the network that hosted the program.

Q: How do I cite a radio/tv transcript if I'm using RefWorks?
A: Use the "Newspaper" template.  In the box for Newspaper name type in the network (CNN, MSNBC, etc).  In the box for Database name type in "Newsbank".
