Northwest Nazarene University (NNU), a comprehensive university with a rich liberal arts tradition, is located in Nampa, Idaho. The university's location in the southwest part of the state allows easy access to local ski resorts, mountain hiking, and river rafting. The proximity to Boise, the state's capital, offers cultural amenities such as the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra, Boise Master Chorale, Opera Idaho, Ballet Idaho, Riverside Jazz Orchestra, and the Boise Art Museum. The university is fully accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. NNU's Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Computer Science (CS), as well as several options for a CS minor. The BS degree in computer science prepares a student for further study in CS or other information technology (IT) fields, such as information security, artificial intelligence, robotics, and bioinformatics. The BS, BA, and to a lesser extent, the CS minor prepare students for IT careers in science, business, or industry, such as software developers (programmers), network engineers, database analysts, etc.
Description of Position
NNU's Department of Mathematics and Computer Science seeks applications for a full-time faculty position in Computer Science to begin in the fall, 2008. Responsibilities include teaching CS courses for majors and others, assisting with student recruitment and retention, and taking part in appropriate committee assignments.
Qualifications
A doctorate in computer science or a closely related field is preferred. Strong candidates with a master's degree and appropriate experience who are pursuing a doctorate should also apply. All levels of rank will be considered. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, recruiting, retention, management, and leadership skills, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal guidance, are important. Other desirable and preferred skills include: knowledge of operating systems (Unix, Linux, XP, etc.), knowledge of software development (C++, Java, UML, etc.), knowledge of data communications and networking, knowledge of data bases and other applications in Linux and Windows, and teaching experience at the college level (preferably undergraduate). Compensation
The salary will be determined by the educational background and experience of each applicant. Full-time faculty will be offered a benefits package including health insurance for faculty and family, life and disability insurance, opportunities for faculty development, sabbatical experiences, and a retirement program.
