My247Ed ONLINE COURSES

NNU is partnering with my247ed to offer a variety of online professional development courses as listed below.  24/7 Educational Services, http://nnu.my247ed.com, is a privately held education company founded in 2001. Its founders - all current or former teachers and administrators, have broad technical, engineering and business backgrounds and a rich history of creating and teaching courses throughout the United States and overseas. The products and services 24/7 Educational Services delivers allows educators to take courses at their own pace, at a schedule they set and location they desire. It's available at any time and eliminates the need to find transportation to and from any seminar location.

Students may have up to six months to complete.  However, the anticipated ending date must be established at the time of registration and that is the date on which grades will be posted, even if the course is completed earlier.  Courses may be taken for either letter grade or pass/fail credit but must be indicated at the time of registration.

Registration and payment for both the course and the credit is done through my247ed.com using the link following each course description.   NNU credit fee is $80 per credit.  Full payment is required at the time of registration.

ED 550 Comprehension: The Key to Becoming a Successful Reader   (1)
This course focuses on improving students’ comprehension skills. The course begins offering three different options for assessing comprehension. Teachers are introduced to a wealth of strategies that can improve and support a reader’s comprehension. ED 550 Curriculum Alignment:  Putting Theory into Practice  (2)  This course allows the educator to develop working strategies and practices for implementing grade, school, and district level curriculum into any of the different subject area(s).  Teachers will:  understand the desired outcomes per school, district and state requirements in that particular discipline; identify and clearly articulate the need for content modifications to meet stated goals; identify and understand the entry and exit level expections of students, what's expected when they arrive in the classroom and what the next educator should expect when passed to another grade; identify and review content of higher and lower grade level educators; use existing and/or new materials to develop content that is consistent with the desired outcomes; and work with or share developed content with your colleagues.  The anticipated ending date must be established at the time of registration and that is the date on which grades will be posted, even if the course is completed earlier.  Credit is available for pass/fail or letter grade and must be indicated at the time of registration.  For more information and to register, visit http://nnu.my247ed.com

ED 550 Designing and Creating Math WebQuests   (1)
Educators will learn to effectively use the vast resources on the Internet through a WebQuest. A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented activity in which some or all of the information students interact with comes from resources on the Internet. Participants are led through the process of setting goals, gathering resources, and planning a math WebQuest. A template is provided for creating the online WebQuest. ED 550 Developing Phonemic Awareness in Emergent Readers   (1)
This course focuses on developing a child’s phonemic awareness to prepare him or her to be a successful reader. The course begins with phonemic awareness assessment options. Based on the assessment results, the teacher can determine which strategies are most appropriate for each student. ED 550  Effective Science Curriculum Development   (1)
Participants will identify and sequence grade level learning objectives based on state standards, identify teaching resources for each objective, and create common assessments for each learning objective. ED 550 Effective Strategies for Emergent and Early Writers   (1)
This online course focuses on helping teachers work with emergent and early writers. ED 550 Effective Strategies to Improve Student Writing   (1) This online course focuses on helping teachers work with students on key writing skills. Considerable time will be spent on writing genres/domains and organizational patterns. ED 550 Focus on Phonics and Decoding   (1) This course focuses on effective ways to teach children to decode unknown words. Phonics basics will be emphasized along with specific ways to help students who are struggling in this area. ED 550  Topics in Technology   (1)
The student will be given an opportunity to enhance their technology skills using various software programs for the preparation of professional documents associated with their work as an educator and in correlating assessment data and technology curriculum software into their lesson planning for increased student achievement.  Upon completion of this course the student will have been exposed to over 15 different software suites varying in depth from introduction to advanced instruction stages of each. ED 550 Word Play:  Vocabulary Instruction in the Primary Grades   (1) This course focuses on how to improve student’s vocabulary. The course begins with options for vocabulary assessment.
